Theme D: Ancient and Paleo-Inspired Materials for Heritage
The work in this theme focuses on the study of ancient and heritage materials (archaeology, paleontology, art history, history). Built on interdisciplinary partnerships, it brings together teams with complementary expertise in the study of systems, their history, and the methodologies associated with their analysis. The theme's activities combine the challenges of ancient materials and processes chemistry with the development of innovative analytical approaches (photoluminescence, synchrotron X-ray speciation, high-definition imaging) coupled with statistical data analysis. These methods have applications in the field of heritage systems and beyond.
The activities are organized around four sub-themes and are linked to two other laboratory themes: "Photoactive Molecules" (development of photochemical probes for reactivity) and "Photo- and Mechano-Commutable Materials" (study of photoinduced effects), as well as the two cross-cutting axes: "Instrumentation and Analytical Tools" (spectral image analysis via classification, AI, and structural methods, synchrotron developments, instrumented aging) and "Training/Research" (interdisciplinary practices, digital humanities and open science, reflexive approaches in humanities and social sciences).
