Title

Electrofluorochromism on a plasmonic electrode

Abstract

Our understanding of the mechanisms involved in the excitation of plasmonic substrates is still very incomplete. In particular, it is not easy to decouple the effects of local field exaltation from thermal effects when electron transfer mechanisms are induced by plasmonic excitation. The aim of this thesis project is to improve this understanding by using electrofluorochromic molecules, i.e. molecules whose light emission properties are correlated with their redox state. Once grafted onto the surface of plasmonic substrates, they will act as probes of interactions with the plasmon: by decoupling electron transfer and energy transfer, we will be able to highlight photoredox effects by means of dual electrochemical and photophysical detection.
Another aspect of the PhD project will involve preparing plasmonic substrates by depositing gold nanoparticles in a controlled manner by photoreduction of diazonium salts under a microscope on a previously nanostructured surface. Grafting of the electrofluorochromic molecular entity can be achieved by plasmonic excitation at a lower energy than direct grafting.
