Professor Ilaria Degano, an internationally renowned specialist in the study of organic pigments, will join the PPSM laboratory as a visiting professor for two periods. The first of these periods will run from 16 to 27 March 2026.
A specialist in chemistry applied to cultural heritage, her research focuses on the characterisation of organic materials such as dyes, resins, waxes and binders found in works of art, historical textiles and archaeological artefacts. She has developed innovative analytical methods based on liquid and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS, GC/MS) to identify these complex compounds and study their long-term deterioration.
During her visit, she will teach students in the Chemistry Department at ENS Paris-Saclay, contribute to the PhD projects of Ayoub Traverson and Clarisse Barbot, and develop joint research projects.
Ilaria Degano is an associate professor of analytical chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry at the University of Pisa.
