Magin Benedict Ferrer was awarded with the Springer-Nature PPS Poster prize during the recently concluded International Conference on Photochemistry 2023 held in Sapporo (Japan) on July 23-28, 2023.
His poster focused on the potential to combine three amplification effects for high-sensitivity X-ray detection :
-
the multiple ring opening reaction of some photochromic terarylene derivatives in halogenated solvent
- the radiosensitization of heavy metal oxide nanoparticles
- the large-scale FRET quenching/unquenching of fluorophores in close proximity to terarylenes
Several experiments were performed in different phases – solution, thin film, microcapsule – to verify if the various phenomena can occur synergistically.
Magin Benedict Ferrer's research is in collaboration with Pr Tsuyoshi Kawai group from Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in Japan. His PhD is co-supervised by Pr Keitaro Nakatani (PPSM) and Pr Tsuyoshi Kawai (NAIST), with Dr Rémi Métivier (PPSM), Dr Clémence Allain (PPSM) and Dr Marine Louis (NAIST). This work is supported by the “ADI 2021” project funded by the IDEX Paris-Saclay (ANR-11-IDEX-0003-02) and this collaboration is in the framework of IRP Nanosynergetics.
